Collins died of pneumonia, brought on by the paralysis on January 23, 1990. He accepted a plea which kept him out of jail, but had him, among other penalties, speak out against drunk driving at all future Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts. Since he was under the influence, he was charged with vehicular manslaughter. Bandet slog igennem i sydstaterne i 1973, og opnåede at blive verdenskendte før nogle af medlemmerne, inklusiv forsanger og sangskriver Ronnie Van Zant, døde i et flystyrt i 1977. Their biggest hit was 1980’s “Don’t Misunderstand Me.” Tragedy struck Collins again in 1986 when he caused a car accident that killed his girlfriend and left him paralyzed from the waist down. Lynyrd Skynyrd er et amerikansk rockband. That list includes “That Smell,” “Free Bird,” and “Gimme Three Steps.” When Ronnie Van Zant and others from the band were killed in a plane crash in 1977, Collins went on to have success with the Rossington-Collins Band. The band’s ride to fame was partially due to songs co-written by Collins. Van Zant, 59, has been the frontman for the Southern rock band since 1987, when he took over for his late brother, founder Ronnie Van Zant, who died in a 1977 plane crash along with guitarist. Im only counting members prior to the 1977 plane crash, not of the reformed band as it exists today Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines died in.
